Custom cutting boards & Woodworking

Cutting board care is simple, and should be performed to keep your cutting board functional for years to come.

It's recommended that an end-grain cutting board be re-oiled every 2 to 3 months, depending on how often it's used. Any food-grade or medical-grade mineral oil will work just fine. If you'd like to get extra-fancy, Long Tail Woodcraft makes a Beeswax & Oil Board Balm.

Step 1
Spread oil or board balm onto cutting board surface with a paper towel or rag. Apply finish to all sides of the board, to prevent uneven drying (which may lead to warping or cracking).

Step 2
Allow oil or balm to soak into the board for 10 to 15 minutes. If the board looks like it's absorbed all of the oil or balm, apply another coat.

Step 3
Once the oil or balm has had a chance to set, wipe off any excess. Your board is ready to use again!
